The United Kingdom’s Foreign Policy towards Kosovo: Which are the Strategic Priorities?

October 18, 2013

On 17 October 2013, Group for Legal and Political Studies and Prishtina Council on Foreign Relations hosted a Panel Discussion on: ‘The United Kingdom’s Foreign Policy towards Kosovo: Which are the Strategic Priorities?’. The panelists analyzed the United Kingdom position towards Kosovo before and after the independence of Kosovo. The panelists argued that UK’s foreign policy position towards Kosovo has had an enormous impact in the status settlement process and the developments thereafter. They also argued that UK has consistently supported Kosovo’s European perspective within the enlargement policy of the European Union. Group for Legal and Political Studies and Prishtina Council on Foreign Relations, at the beginning of the discussion, released a Policy Report entitled: ‘The United Kingdom’s Foreign Policy towards Kosovo: A policy perspective’. The United Kingdom (UK) and Kosovo have, for nearly two decades, had extensive interactions as a result of the Yugoslav War. “International relations are about the whole range of contacts between people in different countries” such as aid, trade, military contributions and diplomacy as well as multilateral policy – this report looks at each of these factors. This report provides an analysis of the present-day UK foreign policy towards Kosovo and shows not only where it has evolved from but also how it should be strategized into the future.
