GLPS held a Press Conference on migration ‘willingness’ and released a Policy Analysis on this issue

August 6, 2013

On 06 August 2013, Group for Legal and Political Studies held a Press Conference and released a report entitled: Who are the Kosovars most willing to migrate to EU countries? – An empirical perspective’. The Press Conference opened with the presentation of a new GLPS Policy Analysis, written by Ms.Arbëresha Loxha and Ms.Delfinë Elshani, Research Fellows at the Group. The Policy Analysis uses quantitative research to identify which characteristics of respondents (level of education, location by region, age, etc) predict an increased likelihood of willingness to migrate to EU countries. The first section provides statistics about the current situation in Kosovo with regard to migration, poverty and unemployment. Section two presents the data used in the Policy Analysis and the descriptive statistics. Section 3 describes the methodological approach adopted in this study. The empirical results are presented in Section 4, which provides the empirical evidence resulting from our regression tests. Section 5 offers policy recommendations which address root causes for migration from Kosovo. The findings of this report should be taken and addressed seriously by Kosovo’s Government and should be translated into an action framework that takes into account the causes of willingness to migrate among Kosovars.
